REHABILITATION

It was December 2013 that rehabilitation projects started for Bohol balangon growers. 2 technical person of ATC (Erwin and Loloy) accompanied by PFTAC evaluated 28 farms (19 Brgy. Mayana, Jagna and 9 in Brgy. Abachanan, Sierra Bullones) last Dec.14-16. 50% of the growers of farms visited were interviewed. The group reported the presence of BBTV infesting not only balangon plants but also Sab-a cultivar as such recommendation for immediate launching of BBTV eradication. Eradication campaign and efforts to be community wide with local government’s support. BMT and PFTAC met with growers on Feb.11-12 to present results of farm assessment, conduct the BCM seminar and present the program components of Bohol rehabilitation.

 

“Barangay Resolutions passed during the Brgy sessions requesting the Department of Agriculture Region 7 to allocate funds for the additional procurement of Disease-free Balangon Planting Materials and organic fertilizer to support the rehabilitation and expansion plan. Municipality of Jagna allocated P400,000.00 for Balangon production enhancement from 2014 Bottoms Up Budgeting (BUB) through DOLE in the process for release and commits to support the rehabilitation. In municipality of Sierra Bullones also commits support through the office of Municipal Agriculture and find ways to allocate funds to support the rehabilitation.” – As reported by PFTAC.

Also one of the rehabilitation activities is providing housing materials for 24 growers and 3 packers and repair materials for Packing Center.

Brgy. Abachanan - 11 growers, Brgy. Magsaysay - 4 growers, Brgy. Mayana - 9 growers.

42 growers from Barangays Abachanan, Magsaysay, Matin-ao and Dusita participated.

Growers also received 115 water purifiers. Distributed to Barangays Mayana (58 units), Abachanan (23 units), Magsaysay (5 units), Banwalog (10 units), Boctol (4 units), Matin-ao (7units), FAs (2 units) and for Packer (6 units).

Camilo Rizano, MAO (Municipal Agriculture Officer) has P400,000 fund for their locality Balangon Project.
